Hiking and Wildlife
There are some hiking areas available. It is always advisable to check with the Copco Lake Store about the area you propose to hike in as some landowners object to trespassing. This is typical mountainous country, and there are
some rattlesnakes and poison oak in the area. Hiking boots should be worn while hiking and always watch where you walk and what you step over.
There is an abundance of wildlife around the lake. Black-tailed deer are a very common sight grazing on the lawns and fields near the lake. Less common are the coyotes and on rare occasion, a bear or mountain lion is
spotted. Squirrels, raccoons, and porcupine are also seen frequently.
Beavers, otters, muskrats and turtles are plentiful. Feathered foul include ospreys, white pelicans, Canadian geese, owls, a vast assortment of ducks, Kingfishers, quail, Stellar's Jay, orioles, redheaded woodpeckers, finches, robins,
hummingbird, redwing blackbirds, crows, wrens, hawks, wild turkeys, golden and bald eagles.
It is a joy watching the Canadian geese raise their young, as Copco Lake is one of the chosen locations for this exciting event.
